Angkor of Faith 2 |
“Angkor of Faith 2” is the name of the camp. This year is the second time after they had it once last year. The theme is “A Cup of Cold Water”. Our campers are from churches in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and of course Cambodia. We were divided into our international group so that we get to know new friends. However, they set up some time for our own “Home Group” as well. What we did at the camp?
We shared “a cup of cold water’ to street kids who sell books, postcards, or hand-made souvenirs. Some of these kids know English some don’t, some go to school and some don’t, some have parents but some don’t or some chose to go to the orphanage themselves. They get punishment from their parents if they do not go out on the street and sell stuff. So, we did what we could. We shared the love of God with them including killing lice, cutting the kids’ hair, playing games, dancing, singing, and giving them goodies. We also went to one of the world amazing places: Angkor Wat. We experienced the history and arts of the country and we got a chance to reflect on what we have learned compared to Christian point of view. Other activities were talent shows, international group discussion or presentations, and each nation took turn to cook for the whole camp…from Thailand, we made “Lad-Naa”, the big rice noodles in gravy sauce…that’s how it’s supposed to be but it turned out to be not sticky soup because we bought the wrong kind of flour. Anyway, everyone still liked it and came back for the seconds. Be proud to be a Thai with MSG! ha ha ha! That’s our secret. Just kidding! Well, a lot of the youths from each country have grown spiritually and they are learning to lead. Also, we have witnessed the work of the Holy Spirit through the life of new or young believers/seekers. To conclude, everyday in Siem Reap, we faced with the very hot, humid weather, food on the side of the road, dust, tiredness and frustration but everybody was filled with joy. We had singing class every evening and it felt like the Holy Spirit blessed us everyday we were there.
